Hardwick Trails - Open for Recreation - Come and Enjoy

Hardwick Trails winds 10 K (6.4 miles) through mixed northern forest as a 4-season, non-motorized trail for the enjoyment of Hardwick area residents and visitors. The Trailhead is located behind Hazen Union School.

This trail, begun under a grant from the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, held its Grand Opening in October, 2003. In the winter months, skiers, snowshoers and hikers travel through thick softwoods and mixed hardwoods where four-legged creatures leave their tracks on the trails, too. In summer, the trails will take runners and hikers through leafy woods alive with birdsong.

The Hazen Union forestry students under Marc Luneau, OSSU Adventure Coordinator Larry Michaels, the Hardwick Recreation Committee, community members, the Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union, and local and regional businesses and organizations have all provided hard work and support to create this recreational treasure. As well as Wendell Shepard and the Hardwick Electric Department have granted permission for the trails to cross their land.

This is only the beginning of what can become one of the finest recreational trail systems in Vermont. Join the effort. Please contact Larry Michaels at 472-3248 to find out more.  Click here for a map of the trails.
