Hardwick's business base is a
diverse mixture of agricultural activities, small retailers, service
providers and a few larger manufacturing facilities. The downtown area
is mostly retail space, eateries and professional offices. Wolcott
Street has a small shopping center, two banks, several other businesses and
our industrial park. Outside the downtown area, there are a smattering of small businesses but most of the productive lands are in some type of agriculture. We have a total of 31 properties that are considered farms in Hardwick. They range from small organic produce growers to large dairy farms. Our industrial park currently has additional space available for new tenants. Infrastructure in the park is served by municipal services including water, sewer and power. Our immediate downtown has been designated by the State of Vermont as a "Designated Village Center". This allows owners of commercial and historic buildings to take advantage of tax credits when making improvements to their properties. The Town is business friendly and is continually working with both our current employers and with prospective new additions to our economic base. The Town has a revolving loan fund specifically designed to assist new and existing businesses to grow. There are also tax stabilization agreements available to help businesses get started or to expand the facilities. Business in Hardwick is alive and well. We have a willing work force in the area and our proximity to major markets in all directions make us a growing center in northern Vermont. Please visit us or call the Town offices to talk about your move to Hardwick.
